The first two weeks of August are a sweet spot on the Wasatch Front calendar. The intense Pioneer Day festival season has passed, the crowds thin just slightly, the weather remains perfect, and the calendar is still packed with incredible events. This is that window where you can catch a national tour at the Twilight Concert Series on a Monday evening, watch hot air balloons launch at dawn on Friday, and spend Saturday exploring a fine arts festival in Park City — all without the July holiday crowds.

Adam and Natalie Stark are out every summer exploring the communities they serve, and early August is one of their favorite times of year to do it. Whether you are a long-time resident or researching a potential move to the Wasatch Front, here is everything happening across Salt Lake and Utah Counties from August 1 through mid-August 2026.

801 Day: August 1 in Downtown Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City's annual 801 Day celebration returns on Saturday, August 1, honoring the area code that brings together the entire Wasatch Front. This year's event features a beer garden with local craft breweries, live music from local bands, a marketplace of local artisans and makers, and a new mural unveiling that adds fresh color to the downtown landscape. It is a celebration of everything that makes Salt Lake City special — the creativity, the community, the small businesses, and the unmistakable pride of place.

The event draws a wonderful cross-section of the valley: artists, young professionals, families, long-time residents, and newcomers all mixing together. If you are exploring the city as a potential place to call home, 801 Day gives you a perfect snapshot of Salt Lake's cultural energy.

  • August 8 (Sat) — Zach Bryan at Rice-Eccles Stadium: One of the biggest names in country music right now brings his massive tour to the U of U. After selling out arenas across the country, this is a can't-miss show for country fans along the Wasatch Front. 7:00 p.m.
  • August 14 (Fri) — The Guess Who at Maverik Center: The legendary Canadian rock band behind American Woman, These Eyes, and No Time hits West Valley City. A classic rock show for the whole family.
  • August 17 (Mon) — This Is The Place Concert Series: Goth Babe & JW Frances: Free outdoor concert at This Is The Place Heritage Park featuring dreamy indie-pop from Goth Babe. One of the most beautiful concert settings along the Wasatch Front — sunset over the valley with pioneer-era buildings as your backdrop. 7:00 p.m.

Sandy Hot Air Balloon Festival: August 7-8

The 19th Annual Sandy City Hot Air Balloon Festival & Glow is one of the most visually stunning events of the entire summer. On Friday and Saturday mornings, arrive at Storm Mountain Park (1000 E. 11400 S.) before sunrise to watch dozens of colorful hot air balloons inflate and launch against the dramatic backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains. The sight of those silent giants rising into the dawn sky is something every Wasatch Front resident should experience at least once.

Saturday evening shifts to the South Towne Promenade for the Balloon Glow — tethered balloons light up in the dark like giant lanterns — accompanied by an outdoor dance party, food trucks, inflatables, and a dazzling drone display. It is a completely different experience from the morning launches and equally magical.

Pro tip from Adam and Natalie: Bring a blanket and hot coffee for the morning launches. The parking lot fills up fast, so arrive by 6:00 a.m. for the best viewing spots. And if you are exploring neighborhoods in Sandy, the area around Storm Mountain Park is one of the most beautiful corners of the city — take a drive through the surrounding streets while you are there.

Craft Lake City DIY Festival: August 7-9

Utah's premier local-centric festival returns to the Utah State Fairpark for its annual celebration of homegrown creativity. The Craft Lake City DIY Festival features hundreds of local artisans, food vendors, live music performances, STEM activities, a kids' makerspace, and a youth entrepreneur program. This is the place to discover the best of Utah's maker community — from handcrafted jewelry and ceramics to original art prints and small-batch food products.

If you are house-hunting or just settling into a new community, events like this are a wonderful way to connect with the local creative scene and meet the people who make Salt Lake County such a vibrant place to live.

Alpine Days: August 8-15

One of Utah County's most charming community celebrations, Alpine Days runs from August 8 through 15 in the mountain-base community of Alpine. The week-long festival features a PRCA rodeo at Lambert Park Rodeo Grounds, a carnival midway, live concerts, a family water day, a classic car show, and a grand parade through downtown Alpine.

Alpine is one of the most scenic communities along the Wasatch Front — perched at the base of Mount Timpanogos with large custom homes, top-rated Alpine School District schools, and a quiet, upscale character. Alpine Days is the one week of the year when this small community opens its arms wide and invites everyone to experience its mountain-town charm. Adam and Natalie have helped families find homes in Alpine, and the community's authentic, family-oriented atmosphere is something special.

Park City Kimball Arts Festival: August 7-9

For a change of scenery, head 40 minutes up to Park City for the nationally recognized Park City Kimball Arts Festival on Historic Main Street. Over 200 juried artists from across the country display and sell their work on the streets of one of the West's most beautiful mountain towns. Live music stages, gourmet food vendors, and children's art activities round out the weekend. The combination of world-class art, mountain air, and Park City's historic charm makes this one of the most elevated summer experiences in the region.

Ink & Art Fest: August 8-9 at the Fairpark

Also at the Utah State Fairpark on the same weekend as Craft Lake City, the Ink & Art Fest (Ink Against Cancer) brings together tattoo artistry, live music, and visual art to raise funds for cancer research. Watch renowned tattoo artists from across the country create original work, browse art booths, and enjoy live performances in a creative, community-driven atmosphere. It is a wonderful complement to the Craft Lake City festival and makes the Fairpark the epicenter of Salt Lake County's creative scene for the second weekend of August.

Late Summer Patio Dining: Where to Eat in August

August evenings on the Wasatch Front are made for outdoor dining. The sun sets around 8:30 p.m., the temperatures are warm but not oppressive, and every restaurant with a patio is at peak form. Here are our updated recommendations across the communities we serve:

11274 S Kestrel Rise Rd, Daybreak area. One of the best patios in the south valley with craft cocktails and an eclectic menu. Perfect for a date night after a lake walk.

Late Summer Outdoor Adventures

August is a fantastic month for outdoor recreation on the Wasatch Front. The trails are still green, the alpine lakes are warm enough for swimming, and the evening temperatures are perfect for after-work hikes. Here are our late-summer recommendations:

Alpine Scrambles: Mount Timpanogos

Utah's most iconic alpine hike, the Timpanogos Summit Trail ascends nearly 5,000 feet from the Aspen Grove or Timothy Lakes trailheads. August is prime — the snow is gone, the wildflowers are still blooming at upper elevations, and the summit views of Utah Valley and Utah Lake are extraordinary. This is a full-day commitment (10-14 hours) — start before 5:00 a.m.

Corner Canyon Evening Rides (Draper)

The best time to ride Draper's world-class trail network is late afternoon into sunset. The trails are less crowded than July weekends, the temperatures are milder, and the golden hour light over the valley is spectacular. The Ghost Falls and Clarks Trail loops are local favorites for an after-work ride.

Sundance Mountain Resort Summer Activities

About 30 minutes from Draper in Provo Canyon, Sundance Resort offers scenic chairlift rides, zip line tours, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and fly fishing throughout August. The alpine air and mountain scenery make it a wonderful summer escape. The Sundance Bluebird Cafe concert series continues on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Provo River Tubing

The Provo River through Provo Canyon is at its best for tubing in August — the water is warm, the flow is steady, and the canyon scenery is spectacular. Multiple outfitters at Vivian Park offer tube and raft rentals. A perfect family afternoon: float the river, then grab dinner in downtown Provo or Lehi.

Lake Blanche (Big Cottonwood Canyon)

One of the most photogenic alpine lakes in the Wasatch. The 6.8-mile roundtrip hike climbs steadily through forest to a stunning turquoise lake beneath Sundial Peak. August is the perfect time — the trail is snow-free, the lake is warm enough to wade in, and the wildflowers along the upper section are still colorful. Start early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms.

Farmers Markets: Peak Season Continues

August is the absolute peak of the farmers market season. Tomatoes, peaches, sweet corn, melons, fresh herbs, and summer squash are abundant at every market along the Wasatch Front. Here is where to find the best produce and community atmosphere:

Daybreak Farmers Market

Every Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. through October 17 in Downtown Daybreak. Peak-season produce, artisan goods, and a lakeside setting.

Sandy Farmers Market

Every Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. through October 17 at Sandy Amphitheater Park. Live music accompanies the shopping.

Draper Farmers Market

Every Tuesday, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. through October 13 at Smith Fields Park. Food trucks, farm-fresh produce, and a community picnic atmosphere.

Downtown SLC Farmers Market

Every Saturday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. through October 24 at Pioneer Park. Over 200 vendors.

Millcreek Harvest Market

Every Friday, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Millcreek Common. Fresh produce, food vendors, and live music.

Murray Park Farmers Market

Fridays & Saturdays, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. starting July 31 at Murray Park. A brand-new market option for central valley residents.
