Archive — June 30, 2026: Independence Day and Draper Days Week One have wrapped up. For current events happening now through the end of July, see our mid-July guide covering Draper Days, Days of '47, Steel Days, and more.
Summer along the Wasatch Front is hitting its stride. Lehi Round-Up Week and Fort Herriman Towne Days just wrapped up with parades, rodeos, drone shows, and fireworks — two of the region's most beloved community celebrations that brought thousands together across Salt Lake and Utah Counties. Now the energy shifts to Independence Day on Saturday, July 4, followed by Draper Days, the legendary Days of '47, and peak-season outdoor adventures. Farmers markets are in full swing, the Sandy Amphitheater is delivering incredible national touring acts, and the long summer evenings — sunset near 9:00 p.m. — make every day feel like an invitation to get outside.

Independence Day: Saturday, July 4
Independence Day falls on a Saturday this year — making it the perfect family celebration. Communities across Salt Lake and Utah Counties are hosting fireworks, parades, cookouts, and festivals throughout the long weekend. Here are the major events across the Wasatch Front:
July 4th Celebrations
- Thanksgiving Point Freedom Celebration (Lehi): Gates open at 4:00 p.m. at Electric Park with one of the largest fireworks displays in Utah County at 10:00 p.m. Free admission, live entertainment, food vendors, and family activities throughout the afternoon and evening. Arrive early for a good spot — this is one of the most popular July 4th destinations along the Wasatch Front.
- Murray Fun Days (Murray): Multi-day celebration at Murray Park with live entertainment, food, and a fireworks display at 10:00 p.m. A longstanding tradition in one of the Salt Lake Valley's most centrally located communities.
- Riverton Town Days (Riverton): Flag-raising ceremony at 6:30 a.m., country races (10K, 5K, 1-mile) at 7:00 a.m., children's parade, and fireworks at Riverton City Park. A full day of community pride in the southwest valley.
- Salt Lake City — The Gateway: Live music, food vendors, and a fireworks show beginning at 10:00 p.m. downtown. One of the state's biggest Independence Day celebrations.
- Pleasant Grove "Red, White & Boom": Family festivities at 6:00 p.m. at Cook Family Park (724 N 600 W) with fireworks at dark.
- Sandy, Draper, and West Jordan: All traditionally host their own fireworks displays — check city websites for 2026 details.
Adam and Natalie are big fans of the Thanksgiving Point Freedom Celebration — the combination of the Ashton Gardens, the open fields at Electric Park, and one of the biggest fireworks shows in the county makes it an ideal family outing. Arrive early for a good spot and bring blankets and lawn chairs. After the fireworks, the drive home along the I-15 corridor through Draper and Sandy is always a beautiful summer night cruise. For families closer to Salt Lake City, The Gateway downtown offers a vibrant urban celebration with live music and a spectacular fireworks display over the city skyline.
Summer Outdoor Adventures: Peak Season
July is the most spectacular month for outdoor activities along the Wasatch Front. Wildflowers are at their peak in the mid-elevation canyons, all trails are clear of snow up to 10,000+ feet, reservoirs are warm enough for swimming, and the long daylight hours (sunrise around 6:00 a.m., sunset near 9:00 p.m.) mean you can enjoy an after-work hike and still be home for a patio dinner. Here are the best activities right now:
Evening Hikes in Corner Canyon (Draper)
Head up Corner Canyon around 6:30–7:00 p.m. when the sun dips behind the Oquirrh range. Shady trails, cooler temperatures, and spectacular sunset views over the south valley. Over 150 miles of interconnected trails make Corner Canyon one of the best trail systems in the state. If you are considering buying a home near Corner Canyon, this is the best way to experience the lifestyle firsthand.
Wildflower Hikes in Big Cottonwood Canyon
Big Cottonwood Canyon is in its prime for wildflowers right now. The Silver Lake Loop, Willow Heights, and Twin Lakes Loop all offer relatively easy terrain with stunning alpine scenery. Early morning visits are recommended to avoid crowds at popular trailheads. By mid-July, the higher-elevation trails in Little Cottonwood Canyon (Albion Basin) also open up with some of the most spectacular wildflower displays in the state.
Paddleboarding on Oquirrh Lake (Daybreak)
Daybreak residents can rent kayaks and paddleboards for free on Oquirrh Lake. For visitors, the 3.2-mile lake loop trail is perfect for a morning walk, followed by a dirty chai and fresh pastry at Biscotts Bakery & Cafe at the Hub. The lake is calmest in the early morning, making it ideal for sunrise paddle sessions. It is a small glimpse of the lifestyle that draws so many families to this community.
Blackridge Reservoir Swimming (Herriman)
This man-made reservoir with a sandy beach is Herriman's go-to summer swimming spot. The water is at its warmest now in early July, and the surrounding trails and mountain biking paths make it easy to combine a swim with a full outdoor day. Kayaking and fishing are also popular here — a hidden gem that feels like a mountain retreat without leaving the valley.
Bell Canyon Waterfall (Sandy/Draper)
One of the most popular local hikes — the Bell Canyon Trail leads to a dramatic waterfall that is flowing strongly right now with snowmelt. Arrive early (before 8:00 a.m.) on weekends to secure parking at the trailhead. The lower reservoir is also a great swimming spot on hot July days.
Timpanogos Cave National Monument (American Fork)
A guided cave tour through three stunning limestone caves is one of Utah's most unique experiences. The 1.5-mile hike up to the cave entrance is steep but rewarding, and the 60-degree cave interior is a welcome break from July heat. Reservations are essential during peak summer — book early at recreation.gov. Located in American Fork Canyon, about 40 minutes from Draper and Sandy.
Draper Days: July 10–18
Draper's signature community celebration is just over a week away. Draper Days 2026 spans two weekends packed with events that capture everything wonderful about living in this community — small-town charm with mountain scenery, neighborly warmth, and family-friendly fun. If you are scouting neighborhoods along the Wasatch Front, Draper Days gives you a genuine feel for the community's character.
Draper Days Schedule
- July 10 – 11 (Fri – Sat): Draper Days Rodeo at Andy Ballard Arena — authentic Western action with bull riding, bronc riding, barrel racing, and team roping. Gates open at 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, July 11: Draper Days 5K at the historic Day Barn, starting at 7:00 a.m. — run through Draper's scenic streets with Wasatch Mountain views
- Thursday, July 16: Children's Bike Parade — a beloved tradition where kids decorate their bikes and ride through downtown Draper
- Friday, July 17: Park activities from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Draper City Park, live concerts at 7:00 p.m. followed by a choreographed drone show — a spectacular modern highlight that lights up the Draper sky
- Saturday, July 18: Draper Days Parade at 9:00 a.m. through downtown Draper — floats, marching bands, and community groups in one of the most charming small-town parades along the Wasatch Front
- Saturday, July 18: Park activities from 12:00 – 9:00 p.m., evening concerts at 7:00 p.m. followed by a massive fireworks display — the grand finale to Draper's biggest celebration
The drone show on Friday night has quickly become one of the most talked-about events in the south valley, and the Saturday morning parade through downtown Draper is a must-see. The Rodeo on July 10–11 at Andy Ballard Arena adds authentic Western action to the celebration. Adam and Natalie help clients find homes in Draper and the Corner Canyon area regularly — Draper Days is one of the best ways to experience the community spirit that makes this city so special. Draper is one of those places where neighbors still wave to each other from their front porches, and Draper Days is when that spirit is on full display.

Sandy Amphitheater: July Concert Lineup
Sandy's 9,000-seat outdoor amphitheater is delivering one of its best summer lineups in years. The intimate scale compared to larger venues means better sightlines and a more personal concert experience — and the mountain backdrop makes every show feel special.
- July 8 (Wednesday): Lukas Nelson — Americana and country rock with a sound that is entirely his own. 8:00 p.m.
- July 11 (Saturday): Houndmouth with Timmy Skelly — indie rock with a rootsy, soulful edge. A perfect summer evening show at 7:00 p.m.

Days of '47 Week: July 18–25
The annual Days of '47 celebration — one of Utah's oldest and most storied traditions — fills the last week of July with rodeo, parades, and fireworks across Salt Lake City. This is a state-wide celebration of Pioneer Day (July 24), and the SLC events are among the biggest in the state:

- July 22 (Wed): Rodeo Night Two — same schedule at the Fairpark
- July 23 (Thu): Rodeo Night Three
- July 24 (Fri — Pioneer Day): Days of '47 Grand Parade in downtown SLC starting at 9:00 a.m. from the Salt Lake Temple to Liberty Park. One of the largest parades in the western United States. Rodeo Night Four in the evening
- July 25 (Sat): Gold Medal Round of the Days of '47 Rodeo — the championship night with a drone and fireworks show at 10:30 p.m.
For Wasatch Front residents, Days of '47 is a perfect midsummer reason to head into SLC for a day of rodeo, parade-watching, and fireworks. The Grand Parade is one of the largest in the western United States, and the nightly rodeo fireworks are a spectacular way to cap off each evening. If you live in Draper, Sandy, or the south valley, the drive into downtown is quick and the Pioneer Day celebrations are well worth the trip.
