Archive — July 23, 2026: Draper Days and the first week of July festivities have concluded. Days of '47 Pioneer Day celebrations are happening now through July 25. For the most current events, see our late-July & early-August guide covering Post Malone, Death Cab for Cutie, the Sandy Balloon Festival, and more. See also: our late-summer & early-fall guide.

Earlier events? See our early-to-mid-July guide covering Independence Day fireworks, and our late-June through mid-July guide for Round-Up Week and Towne Days.

Independence Day just lit up the Wasatch Front with fireworks from Thanksgiving Point to The Gateway, and now the summer calendar hits its busiest stretch. Draper Days kicks off this Friday with the rodeo, followed by concerts, a drone show, parade, and fireworks over two action-packed weekends. Days of '47 — Utah's most storied Pioneer Day celebration — fills the week of July 18–25 with the Grand Parade, nightly rodeo, and a Gold Medal Round finale. Meanwhile, American Fork Steel Days and Spanish Fork Fiesta Days bring their own brand of community celebration to Utah County.

Farmers markets are at peak season, the Sandy Amphitheater is hosting national touring acts, Imaginaria at Thanksgiving Point continues through August, and the hiking is at its absolute best — wildflowers in Albion Basin are expected to peak in the coming weeks. Whether you have lived along the Wasatch Front for years or you are exploring the region for a potential move, this is the time of year that makes this place unforgettable. Adam and Natalie Stark are out at these events every summer, and this is their guide to everything happening across Salt Lake and Utah Counties through the end of July.

  • Thursday, July 16: Children's Bike Parade — a beloved tradition where kids decorate their bikes and ride through downtown Draper
  • Friday, July 17: Park activities from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Draper City Park, live concerts at 7:00 p.m. followed by a choreographed drone show — a spectacular modern highlight that lights up the Draper sky
  • Saturday, July 18: Draper Days Parade at 9:00 a.m. through downtown Draper — floats, marching bands, and community groups in one of the most charming small-town parades along the Wasatch Front
  • Saturday, July 18: Park activities from 12:00 – 9:00 p.m., evening concerts at 7:00 p.m. followed by a massive fireworks display — the grand finale to Draper's biggest celebration

The drone show on Friday night has quickly become one of the most talked-about events in the south valley — hundreds of illuminated drones forming patriotic shapes against the mountain backdrop. The Saturday morning parade through downtown Draper is a must-see, and the Rodeo on July 10–11 at Andy Ballard Arena delivers authentic Western action. Adam and Natalie help clients find homes in Draper and the Corner Canyon area regularly — Draper Days is one of the best ways to experience the community spirit that makes this city so special. Draper is one of those places where neighbors still wave to each other from their front porches, and Draper Days is when that spirit is on full display.

Days of '47 Week: July 18–25

The annual Days of '47 celebration — one of Utah's oldest and most storied traditions — fills the last week of July with rodeo, parades, and fireworks across Salt Lake City. This is a state-wide celebration of Pioneer Day (July 24), and the SLC events are among the biggest in the state. From the Longhorn Cattle Drive through downtown streets to the Gold Medal Rodeo Round with drone and fireworks, this is a week unlike anything else in the American West.

Days of '47 Full Schedule

  • Saturday, July 18: Family Heritage Day at This is the Place Heritage Park (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) — pioneer activities, crafts, and living history demonstrations

  • Saturday, July 25: Gold Medal Round of the Days of '47 Rodeo — the championship night · Drone and fireworks show at 10:30 p.m. to close the celebration

For Wasatch Front residents, Days of '47 is a perfect midsummer reason to head into SLC for a day of rodeo, parade-watching, and fireworks. The Grand Parade is one of the largest in the western United States, and the nightly rodeo fireworks are a spectacular way to cap off each evening. The Float Preview Party at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy is a hidden gem — it is free, indoors (great for escaping the July heat), and gives you an up-close look at the incredible craftsmanship of the parade floats. If you live in Draper, Sandy, or the south valley, the drive into downtown is quick and the Pioneer Day celebrations are well worth the trip. Adam and Natalie attend the Grand Parade every year — it is one of those quintessential Utah experiences that makes you proud to call this state home.

The Pickleball Tournament on Tuesday is a nod to Utah's obsession with the sport, and the Battle of the Bands on Thursday is always a crowd favorite. If you live in Lehi, Highland, or American Fork, this is your hometown celebration at its best.

Sandy Amphitheater: Mid-July Concert Lineup

Sandy's 9,000-seat outdoor amphitheater continues to deliver one of the best summer lineups in years. The intimate scale compared to larger venues means better sightlines and a more personal concert experience — and the mountain backdrop makes every show feel special.

  • July 8 (Wednesday): Lukas Nelson — Americana and country rock with a sound that is entirely his own. 8:00 p.m.
  • July 11 (Saturday): Houndmouth with Timmy Skelly — indie rock with a rootsy, soulful edge. 7:00 p.m.
  • July 17 (Friday): Paul Cauthen — the self-proclaimed "Big Velvet" brings his commanding baritone and outlaw country energy to the amphitheater stage. 7:00 p.m.
  • July 21 (Tuesday): Jimmy Eat World — "25 Years of Bleed American" Tour with Motion City Soundtrack and Illuminati Hotties. A nostalgic, high-energy double-header. 6:00 p.m.
  • July 28 – 29 (Tue – Wed): Death Cab for Cutie — "I Built You a Tower World Tour" with Nation of Language. One of the most anticipated indie rock shows of the summer.

Most shows start at 7:00 p.m. with gates at 6:00 p.m. Check sandyamp.com for tickets — shows at this venue sell out fast. For Sandy and Draper residents, this is the ultimate backyard concert venue.

Between the Sandy Amphitheater's touring acts, Draper Days performances, and community concert series, there is live music happening almost every night of the week.

Explore giant American landmarks including a 40-foot Statue of Liberty, a 250-foot obstacle course, and a field of historical flags — all part of the America 250 celebration. Perfect for late afternoon and sunset strolls with the whole family.

Also continuing through July, the Utah Symphony performs in Ashton Gardens on Friday evenings — an annual tradition featuring an evening of music surrounded by blooming flowers. One of the most memorable summer evenings you can have in Utah County.

Outdoor Adventures: Peak Season on the Trails

Mid-July is the most spectacular time for outdoor activities along the Wasatch Front. Wildflowers are reaching their peak in the mid- and high-elevation canyons, all trails are clear of snow up to 10,000+ feet, reservoirs are warm enough for swimming, and the long daylight hours (sunrise around 6:00 a.m., sunset near 9:00 p.m.) mean you can enjoy an after-work hike and still be home for a patio dinner.

Albion Basin Wildflowers (Little Cottonwood Canyon)

Mid-July is when Albion Basin — the high alpine meadow above Alta ski area — erupts with some of the most spectacular wildflower displays in the Intermountain West. Lupine, Indian paintbrush, and columbine blanket the meadows against a backdrop of rugged granite peaks. The Albion Basin Interpretive Trail is a relatively easy 1-mile loop. Note: Parking fills extremely early on summer weekends (before 7:00 a.m.) — consider a weekday visit. A fee or shuttle may be required during peak bloom. This is a must-do at least once during a Utah summer.

Evening Hikes in Corner Canyon (Draper)

Head up Corner Canyon around 6:30–7:00 p.m. when the sun dips behind the Oquirrh range. Shady trails, cooler temperatures, and spectacular sunset views over the south valley. Over 150 miles of interconnected trails make Corner Canyon one of the best trail systems in the state. If you are considering buying a home near Corner Canyon, this is the best way to experience the lifestyle firsthand.

Paddleboarding on Oquirrh Lake (Daybreak)

Daybreak residents can rent kayaks and paddleboards for free on Oquirrh Lake. For visitors, the 3.2-mile lake loop trail is perfect for a morning walk, followed by a dirty chai and fresh pastry at Biscotts Bakery & Cafe at the Hub. The lake is calmest in the early morning, making it ideal for sunrise paddle sessions. It is a small glimpse of the lifestyle that draws so many families to this community.

Blackridge Reservoir Swimming (Herriman)

This man-made reservoir with a sandy beach is Herriman's go-to summer swimming spot. The water is at its warmest now in mid-July, and the surrounding trails and mountain biking paths make it easy to combine a swim with a full outdoor day. Kayaking and fishing are also popular here — a hidden gem that feels like a mountain retreat without leaving the valley.

Bell Canyon Waterfall (Sandy/Draper)

One of the most popular local hikes — the Bell Canyon Trail leads to a dramatic waterfall that is flowing well with summer snowmelt. Arrive early (before 8:00 a.m.) on weekends to secure parking at the trailhead. The lower reservoir is also a great swimming spot on hot July days.

Timpanogos Cave National Monument (American Fork)

A guided cave tour through three stunning limestone caves is one of Utah's most unique experiences. The 1.5-mile hike up to the cave entrance is steep but rewarding, and the 60-degree cave interior is a welcome break from July heat. Reservations are essential during peak summer — book early at recreation.gov. Located in American Fork Canyon, about 40 minutes from Draper and Sandy.

Splash Pads & Family Water Fun

With July temperatures pushing into the high 80s and low 90s, splash pads are the perfect afternoon escape for families. Here is where to cool off across the south valley and Utah County:

Herriman Splash Pads

J. Lynn Crane Park, Oquirrh Shadows Park, Rosecrest Park, Umbria Estates · Open daily 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. through Labor Day. Free.

Sandy Amphitheater Park

Sandy · Free splash pad near the amphitheater grounds. Combine with a Saturday farmers market visit.

Draper Smith Fields Park

Draper · Splash pad plus large playground. Open for summer season.

Daybreak Splash Pads
