There is a moment in late August along the Wasatch Front when summer shifts into a different gear. The intense festival season of July and early August starts to mellow, the sunsets lean into gold and amber, and the first hints of autumn color appear on the highest peaks of the Wasatch Range. The farmers markets are overflowing with the season's best produce. The alpine lakes are still warm enough for a swim. And there is one last stretch of community celebrations before the back-to-school rhythm settles in. This is the golden window — and it is the perfect time to explore everything the Wasatch Front has to offer.
Adam and Natalie Stark have been out in the communities every weekend this summer, and they want to make sure you do not miss the best of what is still to come. Here is your guide to late August and Labor Day 2026.

This Week in Concerts: A Big One Along the Wasatch Front
The third week of August 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest concert stretches of the entire summer. Here is what is on stage between August 17 and August 22:
ZZ Top at Sandy Amphitheater
Tuesday, August 18, 7 p.m. The legendary little ol' band from Texas brings their blues-rock show to Sandy's outdoor amphitheater. Expect bearded guitar riffs, classic hits like "Sharp Dressed Man" and "La Grange," and a warm mountain evening.
Train at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre
Wednesday, August 19, 6:45 p.m. American pop-rock band behind "Drops of Jupiter" and "Hey Soul Sister" performs at Salt Lake City's largest outdoor amphitheatre. A perfect midweek summer concert.
Men at Work at Red Butte Garden
Monday, August 17, 7 p.m. The iconic Australian band behind "Down Under" and "Who Can It Be Now" performs in the stunning garden amphitheater at the University of Utah. Final concert of this week's Red Butte series.
Gavin DeGraw & Lisa Loeb at Sandy Amphitheater
Friday, August 21, 7 p.m. The "Three Decades Tour" brings two beloved singer-songwriters together for a night of hits spanning the 1990s through today. A wonderfully nostalgic evening under the stars.
Adam and Natalie have a favorite trick for concert nights at Sandy Amphitheater: grab an early dinner at a nearby patio spot (Sunday's Best or Hash Kitchen are both close by), then head to the show for sunset. The mountain backdrop during the opening act is something you will not forget.
Urban Arts Festival: August 22 at Smith's Ballpark
One of the most vibrant events of the late-summer calendar, the Urban Arts Festival returns to Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City on Saturday, August 22 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. This free community festival is Utah's largest celebration of local art and culture, featuring dozens of artist vendors, live mural painting, music and dance performances across multiple stages, and automotive arts. The energy is electric, the creativity is inspiring, and it is free for the whole family.
The Urban Arts Festival is a wonderful example of what makes Salt Lake City's cultural scene so special. From the moment you walk through the gates, you are surrounded by color, music, and the unmistakable buzz of a community creating together. Bring the kids, grab some food from the vendors, and spend the day exploring art in all its forms.
Bluffdale Old West Days: August 22
On the same day as the Urban Arts Festival, Bluffdale hosts its beloved Old West Days — a classic small-town celebration that kicks off with a pancake breakfast, followed by a grand parade through the heart of this south Salt Lake County community. The day continues with live concerts, food vendors, a car show, and a spectacular fireworks finale. It is everything you love about a small-town community celebration, and it embodies the warm, family-friendly spirit that makes the Wasatch Front's southwest communities so special.
Bluffdale sits just south of Herriman and Riverton, with a rural character that sets it apart from its more suburban neighbors. Old West Days is the one day of the year when this close-knit community opens its arms wide and invites everyone to share in the fun.
Yours Always Music Festival: August 21-23
For three days of live music in a festival setting, the Yours Always Music Festival at the Utah State Fairpark brings together national touring acts and local bands across multiple stages. With food vendors, art installations, and a lively festival atmosphere, it is a wonderful way to close out the summer concert season. This festival has quickly become a late-August tradition for music lovers across the Wasatch Front.
Brandon Flowers, Bryson Tiller & Gallivan Center Jazz: August 27-28
The last weekend of August is packed with live music. On Thursday, August 27, R&B star Bryson Tiller takes the stage at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre. On Friday, August 28, Brandon Flowers — the iconic frontman of The Killers and a proud Utah native — performs at Red Butte Garden in what promises to be an electric homecoming show. That same evening, the Gallivan Center Jazz Night in downtown Salt Lake City features Hot House West with live dance lessons, all free and open to the public from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
It is the kind of weekend that reminds you why the Wasatch Front is such a dynamic place to live — you can see a national R&B star at a major amphitheatre, catch a hometown hero at a garden concert, and swing dance to live jazz downtown, all within a 15-minute drive of each other.
Labor Day Weekend: September 3-7
Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer, and along the Wasatch Front it is celebrated with a wonderful mix of traditions. Here is what to look forward to:
Labor Day Weekend 2026
- September 3-7 (Thu-Mon) — Payson Golden Onion Days: Utah's oldest Labor Day celebration (since 1929) in southern Utah County. Grand parade, carnival, fireworks over Memorial Park, live music, arts and crafts, and a community celebration that has been running for nearly a century. One of Adam and Natalie's favorite small-town celebrations in the region.
- September 5-6 (Sat-Sun) — Timpanogos Storytelling Festival: A nationally recognized festival at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi featuring professional storytellers, musicians, and family-friendly activities. A uniquely wonderful event that draws visitors from across the country.
- September 7 (Mon) — Park City Miners' Day: Historic Park City's Labor Day tradition with the famous Running of the Balls (thousands of golf balls race down historic Main Street), a grand parade, live music, and family activities.
- September 7 (Mon) — Snowbird Oktoberfest Labor Day Edition: The resort's Bavarian celebration runs a special Monday edition with extended hours. Free admission.
- September 7 (Mon) — Swiss Days in Midway: The charming Heber Valley town hosts its annual Swiss-themed celebration with traditional arts, crafts, food, and entertainment.
- September 4 (Fri) — Jack Johnson: The beloved surf-rock musician performs at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in what is sure to be one of the most laid-back, feel-good shows of the year (7:30 p.m.).
- September 7 (Mon) — Labor Day itself: Farmers markets run on special schedules. Most city pools and splash pads close for the season after this weekend. It is also one of the best hiking weekends of the year — the crowds are thinner, the weather is perfect, and the aspen leaves are just beginning to show their first hints of gold.
Labor Day weekend is also the last real window for Utah Lake water recreation — the water is still warm, the evenings are long, and the crowds are smaller than July. Paddleboarding, kayaking, and pontoon boat rentals at Utah Lake State Park, Jordanelle Reservoir, and Deer Creek Reservoir are all excellent options.
If you are exploring communities along the Wasatch Front for a potential move, Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to visit. The weather is ideal, the neighborhoods are buzzing with their end-of-summer energy, and you get a real feel for the community spirit that makes each city unique. Adam and Natalie always recommend a Labor Day weekend house-hunting trip to clients who are relocating from out of state.
Late Summer Hiking: Last Call for Alpine Adventures
Late August and early September are arguably the best hiking months on the Wasatch Front. The summer heat has started to ease, the trails are less crowded, and the high alpine country is still lush and green. Here are our top recommendations for this window:
Lake Blanche Trail
Big Cottonwood Canyon. Challenging 7-mile roundtrip to a breathtaking alpine lake surrounded by jagged peaks. The wildflowers are fading but the golden aspen light is beginning. This is one of the most rewarding day hikes in the Wasatch. Bring plenty of water and start early.
Cecret Lake Trail
Little Cottonwood Canyon. A family-friendly 2-mile roundtrip hike through the Albion Basin that ends at a pristine alpine lake. Late August is the last chance to catch the wildflower meadows before they fade into autumn. One of the most accessible high-elevation hikes in the Wasatch.
Fifth Water Hot Springs
Spanish Fork Canyon, Utah County. A 5-mile roundtrip hike that follows a beautiful creek through a narrow canyon to a series of natural hot spring pools. The water temperature is perfect in late summer, and the waterfall at the end is spectacular. A unique Utah County adventure.
Corner Canyon Evening Rides
Draper's 90+ mile trail network is a world-class destination for mountain biking and trail running. Late afternoon rides in late August offer cooler temperatures and spectacular sunset views over the Salt Lake Valley. The Ghost Falls and Clarks Trails are local favorites.
If you are new to the area or just visiting, these trails give you a real sense of why the Wasatch Front is such a desirable place to live. The access to world-class outdoor recreation from virtually every neighborhood along the Wasatch Front is extraordinary. Adam and Natalie have helped many clients find homes that put them minutes from their favorite trailheads.
Peach Season & Farmers Markets: The Peak of Everything
Late August is the absolute peak of farmers market season on the Wasatch Front. The stone fruit is at its prime — Utah peaches are legendary for a reason — and the tomatoes, corn, melons, and summer squash could not be better. Every Saturday morning along the Wasatch Front, the markets are buzzing with energy.
Daybreak Farmers Market
Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. through October 17, Downtown Daybreak. Peak-season peaches, artisan goods, and a lakeside setting. Pair it with a walk around Oquirrh Lake after.
Downtown SLC Farmers Market
Saturdays, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Pioneer Park. Over 200 vendors with the region's best selection of produce, artisan breads, local honey, and crafts. The Tuesday evening market continues through September.
Draper Farmers Market & Food Trucks
Tuesdays, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. through October 13 at Smith Fields Park. Food trucks, farm-fresh produce, and a community picnic atmosphere. One of the most relaxed market experiences on the Wasatch Front.
South Jordan Farmers Market
Saturdays, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at 1600 W. Towne Center Dr. A food-focused market operated by the Utah Farm Bureau with local growers and artisan vendors.
Thanksgiving Point Farmers Market (Lehi)
Fridays, 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. through October. Local growers, food vendors, and arts and crafts in the beautiful Thanksgiving Point grounds. Perfect after a visit to the Sunflower Festival.
Daybreak Cove Night Market
Second and fourth Tuesday of each month, 5-9 p.m. at The Cove House. Local vendors, food, and a relaxed lakeside evening. Next market: Tuesday, August 25.
Adam and Natalie make a point of visiting the Daybreak Farmers Market most Saturday mornings. It is one of their favorite ways to stay connected to the community and discover what is new in the neighborhoods they serve. If you see them there, say hello.
Family-Friendly Activities: One Last Round of Summer Fun
With school starting soon (or already underway in some districts), the last weeks of August and Labor Day weekend are prime time for one final round of family fun. Here are some of the best options along the Wasatch Front:
Cornbelly's Sunflower Festival at Thanksgiving Point
Through late September in Lehi. Walk through acres of towering sunflowers in full bloom, pick your own bouquet, and take family photos against the stunning backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains. It is one of the most photogenic family outings of the entire year. The sunflowers are at their absolute peak in late August.
Liberty Park, Tracy Aviary & Discovery Gateway
Salt Lake City's Liberty Park is a perennial family favorite with playgrounds, paddle boats, and the Tracy Aviary (4.5 stars). Downtown, Discovery Gateway Children's Museum offers interactive exhibits that engage kids of all ages. Both are perfect for a hot late-summer day.
Provo River Tubing & Utah Lake
The Provo River through Provo Canyon is still running strong for tubing in late August. Multiple outfitters at Vivian Park offer tube rentals — a perfect family afternoon floating through the canyon. Utah Lake State Park in Provo offers kayak, paddleboard, and pontoon boat rentals for a relaxed day on the water.
Natural History Museum of Utah & This Is The Place
The Natural History Museum of Utah at the University of Utah (4.7 stars) offers stunning exhibits on dinosaurs, native cultures, and Utah's geological wonders. This Is The Place Heritage Park offers pioneer history, train rides, and family activities. Both are indoor-outdoor experiences that work well in late summer heat.
Looking Ahead: September & Early Fall Preview
As August gives way to September, the Wasatch Front enters one of its most beautiful seasons. The aspen trees in the canyons begin their transformation from green to gold, the air turns crisp in the mornings, and the community calendar shifts from summer festivals to fall traditions. Here is what to look forward to:
- September 10-20: Utah State Fair at the Utah State Fairpark — 170th annual edition with carnival rides, livestock shows, live entertainment, and fair food
- September 18 - October 31: Cornbelly's Halloween Festival at Thanksgiving Point — Utah's biggest fall festival with corn maze, pumpkin patch, light shows, haunted attractions, and fireworks
- September 24-26: FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention at the Salt Palace
- September 26: Sandy Heritage Festival — celebrating Sandy's history and community
- Late September - October: Peak fall foliage along the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway (Highway 92) through American Fork Canyon
- October: Herriman Howl Halloween celebration, Daybreak Harvest Festival, and the annual migration of pumpkin patches across both counties
September is also when the canyons begin their transformation. The aspen trees in Big Cottonwood, Little Cottonwood, and American Fork Canyons start turning gold in late September, and by early October the color is at its peak. The Alpine Loop Scenic Backway (Highway 92 from American Fork Canyon to Sundance and Provo Canyon) is one of the most spectacular fall drives in the country, and it is right in our backyard.

And if you are exploring the region for a potential move — visiting farmers markets, walking neighborhood trails, enjoying patio dinners — there is no better time to get a real feel for daily life along the Wasatch Front.
